Moving Again

I have moved my possessions more times than I remember. Oddly enough, I enjoy it. There is something challenging about handling each and every tiny object that you have collected over the years. It is also daunting and most of the time overwhelming! Yet, there is something too taking an inventory of your things. I know my husband and I are big purgers when we move...clothes that have not been worn in a year do not come along, things I don't remember certainly are given away...then there is the item that was thought long lost that emerges from the depth of the bedroom. I don't know, I just like moving.
However, I am having to admit that as my husband and I prepare for this move. I am feeling a bigger pull to be somewhere for a while. The moves I have made so far are from year to year to year. No time to settle in, no time to feel a part of the community around us. So, I look forward to this move because I hope it will be the last one for a while. I think I am ready to participate in a community without already knowing the next move out date before the fist day we arrive.
Hope others in the moving process are having fun too!  If you are seeking to put down roots or happily moving from place to place, may you find joy along the way.

What's so Good About a Rock Anyway...

I always felt bad for the foolish man who built his house upon the sand. Maybe you know the song? We would happily sing and sign along with the catchy children's song in Sunday School..."The foolish man built his house upon the sand....and it all came tumbling down..." Next came the wise man who build his house upon a rock and it stood firm in the storm so unlike the foolish man's house.

As a person who loves geology I can appreciate the value of sand vs. rock dwelling construction. I also am aware the sand will someday become solid rock, at least it has the potential...and solid rock had to crumble in order to make sand. What was simple to sing as a child is much more complicated now. Is the complication a symptom too much information and too little trust? What's so good about a rock anyway...

As a kid I used to think that rocks were indestructible. They were sturdy, strong, heavy, not for throwing, and immovable since really big ones were left where they were....like the one in front of our church that the city built the street around. Then one day I threw one rock at another rock and I couldn't believe my eyes when the one I threw chipped! For a moment I was afraid of my own strength...then in the next I was puzzled by the weakness of the rock. Metaphors only go so far, this is true. Yet, what is important about the metaphor that led the artist to choose it? Rock imagery is prolific in the Bible. God is a rock...the church is built on a rock...rocks, rocks, rocks. What's so good about a rock anyway...

I toss out a question....with a timid beginning of an answer...I am not a rock, that is a characteristic God claims. I do not make rocks, but I can feel the difference between rock and sand when I hold them in my hand. I can learn which rocks don't crumble or chip when I experiment and fumble about. So I wonder, can I take this God who is like a rock out in the storm...toss it about...and see what comes? The song says the rock is firm and trustworthy...if I build my house there it will be safe and secure...and so I unabashedly inquire - God, are you a rock? If so, what's so good about a rock anyway?

New Beginnings

Good day,

With my husband out of town on a photo adventure up North I decided it was time to sit down and begin what so many people have already started...an archive of their life for friends and family living across the globe and for others who just might get a laugh out of who we are and what we do.

Who am I, well, I don't know that I can answer that completely. I am a wife, daughter, sister, cousin, niece, and friend to start. I am a Christian who treasures the reality that I am a child of God above all else. I am a mother of two cats and a hamster. I can finally say I am not an official student for the first time in a long time since I just completed an MDiv from Luther Seminary this past May! Woot! Soon I hope to be a pastor. So, there you have it...a little bit of me.

Peace
Krista
